Jet Ski Rescue and Safety Measures in Mackay QLD

Including recent CQ Rescue helicopter missions and Mackay water rescue efforts

A recent jet ski rescue off St Helens Beach, north of Mackay, underscores the critical role of the CQ Rescue helicopter in local emergency responses.

On Friday, around 12:30 pm, the rescue team was dispatched to locate a missing jet skier. After an exhaustive two-hour search, they found the jet ski but initially saw no sign of its rider.

As fuel levels dwindled, the crew made a final sweep and spotted the man waving before he disappeared beneath the surface. The rescue swimmer was immediately deployed, retrieving the unconscious man in critical condition.

Advanced life support, including CPR, was administered during the flight back to Mackay. Upon arrival, the patient was transferred to an ambulance and taken to Mackay Base Hospital.

This incident highlights the importance of safety measures for water activities. Authorities recommend always wearing a life jacket, informing someone of your plans, and carrying a registered emergency beacon. Such precautions can be lifesaving in emergencies.

The CQ Rescue helicopter service, operating 24/7, is a vital lifeline for the Mackay region. Their swift response and advanced capabilities are crucial in ensuring the safety of residents and visitors alike.

As the community reflects on this event, it's a reminder of the unpredictable nature of water activities and the importance of preparedness. The dedication of rescue services and adherence to safety protocols are essential in preventing tragedies.
